Total Solar Eclipse Coming to Mexico City in 2024

Partial Solar Eclipse Visible in Mexico City on April 8th, 2024

UNAM Campuses to Host Viewing Events for the 2024 Solar Eclipse

On April 8th, 2024, a total solar eclipse will occur, visible across all three countries of North America. In Mexico City, a partial solar eclipse will be visible starting at 10:55 AM local time.

The duration of the eclipse will vary depending on location, with Mexico City experiencing a total eclipse for a duration of approximately two minutes. The eclipse will be visible from various locations throughout the city, including the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), which will be hosting viewing events at several of its campuses.

Partial solar eclipses occur when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, but does not completely cover the Sun. This results in a "partial" eclipse, where only a portion of the Sun's disk is obscured by the Moon. Total solar eclipses, on the other hand, occur when the Moon completely blocks the Sun, resulting in darkness for a brief period of time.

Solar eclipses are rare astronomical events, and the 2024 eclipse is expected to attract a large number of visitors to Mexico City. The event provides an opportunity for people to witness a unique celestial phenomenon and learn more about astronomy and space science.
