One Piece Crank Bottom Bracket

WEB Bottom Bracket Removal and Installation

Types of Bottom Brackets

A bottom bracket is the part of a bicycle where the cranks are attached to the frame. The type of bike bottom bracket you'll find on a low to mid-end model has cottered or one-piece cranks. These cranks are not removable from the axle spindle. This makes servicing the bottom bracket more difficult.

Cottered Cranks

Cottered cranks are a classic design that has been used for many years. They are relatively simple to remove and install, but they are not as strong or durable as one-piece cranks.

One-Piece Cranks

One-piece cranks are a more modern design that is stronger and more durable than cottered cranks. They are also easier to remove and install.
